Both hotels had good breakfasts, and a bonus for me was the restaurant service at Villa Everest. As a woman travelling alone, I have a personal rule that I do not go out after dark by myself. Well, In Darjeeling it was dark by 5 pm! So it was good to be able to order a meal at the hotel, even though it was a very small place (11 rooms I think), and there was plenty of choice on the menu.
The various pickups went smoothly, and the driver between Bagdogra and Darjeeling (both ways), a young man whose name is Sanjiwan, was very pleasant, with English good enough to answer quite a lot of questions during a three-hour trip!
The only hiccup was that the phone connection between the local office and Villa Everest was down on my last full day there when I was waiting for a pickup time for the next morning. However the hotel phoned them in the evening, and we discovered that the local office had been trying to get through all day, but the hotel line was down.
I would be very happy to recommend all things India travel to potential travellers to India.
I will be interested to see how your Bhutan plans work out!
