“It’s difficult for me to describe all of the fibre delights that we saw – starting in Ahmedabad, travelling well into Gujarat, of course, New Delhi and the Taj Mahal, Lucknow, rural West Bengal, and Kolkata…”
My daughter and I were part of a 21-day marvellous tour in the northern part of India. It was organized and chaperoned by Joji Jacob of All Things India (ATI) out of Wellington NZ. It’s difficult for me to describe all of the fibre delights that we saw – starting in Ahmedabad, travelling well into Gujarat, of course, New Delhi and the Taj Mahal, Lucknow, rural West Bengal, and Kolkata. We saw double/single ikat weaving and fibre preparation, natural dyeing, pit weaving, tie-dye, single and double sided block printing, embroidery-like embellishments, Rogan fabric “painting”, true muslin weaving, small weaving sheds as well as many NGOs creating products in cotton, silk, wool. All so wonderful.
The accommodations were interesting and varied – some tents, some cabins, some historic hotels. All were just what we needed every night.
ATI specializes in small group tours to unique locations throughout India. I plan to join another excursion with them very soon. I have not been a “tour” traveller in the past, but All Things India has changed my mind — this was a life-changing experience.
